Plugins

Install, enable, and remove FileMaker Server plugins for the Scripting Engine, Web Publishing Engine, and Data API Engine without touching the file system.

Plugin management requires OttoFMS 4.18.0 or later.

FileMaker Server plugins normally have to be copied into the right folder on the server and the corresponding engine restarted by hand. The Plugins tab in the OttoFMS console does this for you: upload a plugin file, choose which engine(s) it should be installed to, and restart just those engines when you're ready.

Installing a Plugin

Click "Install Plugin" to open the install dialog. Drag your plugin file onto the dropzone or click to select one from your computer. The dialog accepts .fmx, .fmx64, and .fmplugin files.

Before uploading, choose which engine(s) to install the plugin to under "Install to:":

  • Scripting Engine
  • Web Publishing Engine
  • Data API Engine

You can select more than one engine if the plugin needs to run in multiple places. Once the upload finishes, you'll see a confirmation that the plugin uploaded successfully along with a reminder that the engine(s) you installed it to need to be restarted before the plugin is active.

Restarting Engines

A plugin isn't loaded until its engine restarts. After an upload, the dialog lists each engine you installed to with a "Restart" button next to it — or, if you installed to more than one engine, a "Restart all engines" button to restart them together. If you're not ready to restart yet, choose "Close and restart later" and restart the engine(s) from the Services tab when convenient.

Managing Installed Plugins

Each engine has its own section listing the plugins currently installed to it, along with a switch to enable or disable plugins for that engine altogether. When plugins are enabled for an engine, you can also toggle "Allow Install Plug-in File Script Step," which controls whether FileMaker's own Install Plugin File script step is allowed to install plugins on that engine.

For the Scripting Engine, the plugin list shows the plugin's name, description, and whether it's enabled, alongside its filename — so you can turn individual plugins on or off without removing them. The Web Publishing Engine and Data API Engine sections list installed plugins by filename.

Deleting a Plugin

Click the delete icon next to a plugin to remove it. Deletion happens immediately, so make sure you've selected the right plugin before clicking.
