Backup Solutions with Ottomatic
Every Ottomatic FileMaker Hosting plan includes standard FileMaker Server backups on your VM and 14-day offsite backups in immutable storage. For faster recovery or stronger disaster protection, add SNAPS™ (30-minute point-in-time snapshots, available in select data centers) or Full VM Backups.
Standard FileMaker Backups
FileMaker Server's built-in backup schedule runs on every Ottomatic VM. You can tune the frequency, retention, and which databases are included to match your workload. These backups live on your VM's storage and form the first layer alongside your offsite backups.
Offsite Backups
Ottomatic provides offsite backups as part of its fully managed FileMaker Hosting Services. These backups are stored in immutable storage, replicated across multiple zones to achieve 99.999999999% (eleven 9s!) redundancy, and retained for 14 days.
Backups are downloaded directly from the Cloud Console. Browse to the file you need and pull it down, restore in place, or deploy to another server using built-in features.
Point-in-Time Snapshots (SNAPS™) – Add-on
SNAPS™ run every 30 minutes alongside FileMaker's progressive backups, giving you fast recovery and easy downloads from the Cloud Console. Available in select data centers.
SNAPS™ volumes start at 500GB and retain up to 7 days of snapshots:
- SNAPS™ 500GB – $50/month

Full VM Backups (Disaster Recovery) – Add-on
Full VM Backups capture the entire running VM and can be enabled per instance for an additional cost. Choose your rollback schedule:
- Daily
- Every other day
- Weekly
- Monthly Each VM retains two backups, and they can be transferred to other data centers for stronger disaster recovery.
User-Configured S3 Backups
Push your backups offsite to S3-compatible object storage that you control. Configure it through the Cloud Console or directly in OttoFMS.
Two storage options:
- Ottomatic Cloud Storage — deploy S3 storage from Ottomatic in a few clicks
- Bring your own S3 — connect any S3-compatible service (AWS, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, etc.) Learn more here.
Accessing Your Backups
The Cloud Console gives you self-service access to most backup tiers. Here's where each one lives:
14-Day Offsite Backups
Available in the Cloud Console under the Server tab → Offsite Backups. Browse the 14-day retention window and download the file you need directly.
SNAPS™, User-Configured S3 Offsite, and Local FileMaker Backups
If you have SNAPS™ enabled, snapshots are available through the File Browser in the Cloud Console. The same File Browser also gives you access to:
- User-configured S3 offsite backups (via OttoFMS or the Ottomatic Cloud Console)
- Local FileMaker Server backups running on your VM
Full VM Backups (Disaster Recovery)
Full VM restores require a support ticket. Our team handles the rollback to your selected daily, every-other-day, weekly, or monthly backup.
